It’s called “Pennies for Pets”. A project in the elementary schools that let kids get community service points, while helping the people and animals in their community and beyond.
Once a month a representative from Angels visits the classroom for about an hour, during which time a monthly project is completed. For example, February was “Winter Pet Care”. We discussed the special needs of several types of animals during the winter months. In December, we focused on our soldiers. The kids from Hartland Elementary School 4th grades, made goodie bags for the recovering soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. With the help of the Red Cross office at Walter Reed, I understand that the soldiers are enjoying their gifts.
Coming up, a poster contest for “National Pet Week” May 4th -10th 2008. The kids need to design a poster that will be used for advertising our “Doggie Disc Day” event, as well as express the true meaning of being a pet. Can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Please watch for the canisters the kids will put out in the stores for any extra change you might have. They will be gathering all of those coins and making a donation to Angels Among Us at the end of the school year.
If you know of a school or class that would be interested in doing a community service project and including Angels in the project, please contact us for information.
See you in class!
